Morning Rituals or better yet; RICHuals
It’s what you need in the morning. It’s what’s going to make you feel better and let you take back your day and reality. It doesn’t matter what the fuck you do. As long as you dictate what you’re doing.
If you’re rolling over and the first thing you do is grab your phone, look at a social media, an email, a text message, you’re letting somebody else dictate the beginning of your day. So it’s not about doing whatever you want, because what you want to do is look at your phone.
SUCCESS MORNING ROUTINE
If you open up your fucking phone and you’ve got a shitty message or a great message, or things you have to do, then you jump up and start thinking. You’re not letting yourself breathe.
Take control of your life and take control of your business. So I’m going to walk you through the way I start my morning. These are not strict things to do, they are guidelines. I’ve got this toolbox of sorts, with these four categories that I choose from every day.
Sometimes I wake up at 5:00 AM because I couldn’t sleep, and then other days I wake up at 10:00 AM because I hate the mornings. Sometimes I have five minutes and then other times two hours. It will never be the same, we’re human beings. We change, we evolve, and things happen.
Sometimes you’re running late and you have to get your kids to school and all these other things. Grab something from these four guidelines, a lot of times they overlap, which is awesome. You’re going to gain back control in your life. If you find yourself bitching that you don’t have enough time in your day, it’s because you’re letting other people dictate how it’s going to go.
First thing in the morning, you will take back your control and you’re going to find a lot more time. So to get into it, I have four categories that I use in my morning. My RICHuals so four ‘Rs.
The Core Success Morning Routine: Reflect. Refresh. Rise. Release.
Within these categories, there are fucking hundreds of things that you can do. It’s a matter of what feels good. As soon as you wake up, the best one to start with is reflection, and that means reflecting inward.
It means looking into yourself and figuring out what the hell you need for that. Sometimes, you may need to journal or read or stretch or dance or put on lingerie and have a sexy morning. I don’t know what it is, but you do!
The first thing you’re going to do is reflect inward, to yourself, and definitely not to your phone. Do not let somebody else decide your day, I cannot say this enough. Reflect inward, and pick something that is going to make your day better.
You’re not only asking, what it is that you need, but also reflecting on your day, and your gratitude. Journaling how you feel is important, write down what’s in your heart at that moment. “I feel tired and I feel shitty”, then you’re going to change the narrative. You’re going to say, “but today I choose to feel energized and uplifted”.
You are gorgeous and rebellious and in control, and you’re going to choose that. This is all reflected inward, this is all about choosing your day. This is taking it by the fucking balls and grabbing that day and making it yours. Now the outward is your refresh.
Refresh Is An Inspiration
Inspiration could mean so many different things to different people. Inspiration can be reading a self-help book, magazine, news article, painting, gardening, or anything that is going to make you feel refreshed and ready for your day. Whatever makes you feel inspired and inspires action. These are the things that you’re going to work on to feel refreshed. Find your inspiration, what is going to make you feel ready for your day, ready to move, ready to feel refreshed.
It’s a new day, it’s a fresh day for you to control. Now you still have to rise and release. As I mentioned, a lot of these categories can overlap. You can do three of them within one step. You can choose one thing to do, and cover all the categories.
…and by rise, I mean literally rising off your ass. Get the hell off your ass and do something with your body. I do not care what you do and I’m not saying you need to have a 45 to 90-minute workout that busts your ass. No, I’m saying you need to move your body. That could mean a walk, stretching, dancing, or laps in the backyard. MOVE YOUR BODY!
Rise up and move, because the more connected you feel with your body, the more connected you feel with your day. The only way you’re going to be in control is if you realize that it’s all one. Your body, your mind, your soul, it is all connected.
Then Release Them
The release connects with your soul. The actions I think of for release are breathing, breathwork, mirror-work, and nature. It’s releasing whatever toxins, shitty feelings, and crappy things that you may have woken up with or went to sleep with.
It doesn’t matter what order you do these in. I believe reflection should always come first, so you can choose what you’re going to do. Let’s say you were inspired by nature, so you decided to go on a nature- walk, while deep breathing. You’ve already covered all the categories.
So there’s no shitty feeling of, “Damn I didn’t do my morning rituals today.” You covered all of them by doing one single task. You raised and move your body. You looked outward and refreshed your inspiration by actually moving around. You are released by being in nature and breathing. You’ve already covered all of these categories.
That is why these categories are so fucking awesome, they’re not a strict ritual that you have to follow. Where if you don’t follow it, you feel like crap. No, it’s about putting you first. It’s about taking control of your life and not going on your fucking phone, first thing in the morning.
I cannot say it enough and I am so guilty of it. I would flip over and grab my phone with my eyes barely open. I don’t even know if I had my glasses on or even took a breath before I had a phone in my hand. Once in a while I still do it and I don’t beat myself up about it.
I don’t beat myself up if I still do it because we’re fucking human and it happens. Then, you know what I do, I put it down and I reflect on why I felt the need to do that.
I start my ritual by choosing these four categories. Focusing on these four categories, you are hitting all the targets, body, mind, soul, and mission.
Take Control Of Your F*cking Day
That is how you’re going to take back your time and your energy. It’s not that hard, and you’re not going to beat yourself up if you didn’t do exactly right. When you tell yourself that you have to do exactly 30 minutes of meditation or 30 minutes of working out, breath work, mirror work, eat a healthy lunch and you have to do this and that, you’re setting yourself up for failure. You’re putting too much on yourself, instead of waking up and telling yourself what you need to reflect on. Figure out what you need today and make it happen while being aligned with your true self.
I want you to take a deep breath and decide what’s going to fill those boxes for you. Make yourself a little chart, for the things that you could do under each one of these categories. It could be meditation, journaling, breathwork, making a mood board, or a voice-over where you talk out your feelings. Truly, anything.
It’s what you need that day, and what can all fall under these categories. Then you’re going to take back your life and your days, and you’re going to feel fucking amazing.
